LAW & ORDER FANDOM GOES VIRAL WITH SVU THEME SONG DANCE
Everyone is talking about the viral Law & Order dance — and now even the cast has joined in.
HOW THE DANCE STARTED
TikTok creator and lifelong dancer Stephon Vann (@jonas_sjv) says the idea came to him “on a whim” while waiting for a bus. He wanted to dance to a song no one expected — and instantly thought of the Law & Order: SVU theme.
“I’ve always loved that theme song,” he says. “Everybody knows it, but nobody has danced to it.”
Vann’s first bus stop video got about 100 likes, giving him a hint that he had something special. A few days later, he filmed it again after work — and the views started climbing.
THE MOMENT IT WENT VIRAL
Ten days later, Vann met up with his friends in Cleveland and convinced them to join him. “I thought the synchronicity and flash mob look would be cool,” he says. They only did two takes, and the second one is the video that exploded online.
By the next day, it was everywhere. “People were telling me it’s on Twitter, then Instagram. When NBC picked it up, it blew up even more,” he recalls.

SVU CAST JOINS THE FUN
On August 1, NBC and SVU’s official accounts posted a video of Mariska Hargitay and Kelli Giddish doing the dance. They even credited Vann for starting the trend.
“They invited me to collaborate and I jumped to the moon,” he laughs. “Seeing them do my dance was unreal. I hope one day I can dance with them in person.”
A CULTURAL MOMENT
Vann says the reaction has been surreal — even his grandmother sent him the clip. “That’s when I knew this was bigger than just TikTok,” he says.
Since going viral, fans have requested dances to other theme songs like The OC and Grey’s Anatomy. For Vann, the experience has been both fun and meaningful.
“We create so much of what happens in the culture because we are the culture,” he explains. “It feels amazing to get credit for it.”
Vann says he’s grateful for the love and support. “This was just a little freestyle dance I made up. People love how random it is, and I’m glad I can share it with the world.”
