Fire Country Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Your Voice in My Head

Bode must control his natural urges and avoid interfering in a federal investigation on Fire Country Season 4 Episode 6, “Your Voice in My Head.”

After unveiling the news of an arsonist to Bode on Fire Country Season 4 Episode 5, “Happy First Day, Manny,” the series is wasting no time diving into this new conflict.

On the heels of his probation ending at the stroke of midnight, though, those closest to Bode must work to help keep him on track.

Meanwhile, Eve is forced to examine her desires for the future when Francine signs up to become a foster mother without her knowledge.

Old Habits Die Hard

If there’s one thing to know about Bode Leone, it’s that once he sets his sights on something, his urge to achieve that goal will likely never fade. Even if it takes a miracle to come true, his motivation to achieve his goals is unlikely to vanish, which can be both a good and bad thing.

In this instance, it’s an inconvenience that almost gets him put back in jail. Thankfully, though, Manny is there to be the voice of reason in his hour of need. Without his interference, Bode likely would have broken into OLD BOYS’ home and then been caught by the ATF.

What makes his actions more infuriating in this outing is his stance at the beginning of the hour. He’s the one with the voice of reason, telling Jake that aiding the ATF’s investigation only gets them closer to finding the arsonist.

However, that sentiment is thrown out the window almost immediately once he realizes the arsonist could be someone who used to work at his family’s bar.

Viewers who have been present from the beginning of the series know that Bode is as hard-headed as they come. While his inability to follow orders and stay out of trouble is genuine to who he is at his core, it doesn’t make it any less exhausting.

Taking the Next Step

We’re only six episodes in, and it’s clear that this season is going to be one full of growth for Eve. Not only is she taking noteworthy steps in her relationship with Francine, but she’s single-handedly working her tail off to bring Three Rock back.

Kids can often be the make-or-break for a relationship, and lead to further discourse. We see that through the struggles Eve and Francine endure as they work through their opposing views on children.

Eve may not be in the right headspace for children right now, but, as others throughout the episode note, she has the mothering aspect down to a T.

Being in charge of Three Rock and helping inmates rehabilitate to everyday life is no easy feat. If she can successfully help them overcome their addictions and past wrongs, kids will be a breeze for her.

While the series’ primary focus on relationships has been on Bode’s adventures, Eve and Francine still rank among the more intriguing couples for me.

It’s an immense letdown that we haven’t had the chance to see them flesh out their relationship more. I’m keeping fingers crossed this isn’t a setup for the two to break up down the line.

The Truth About Vince’s Death

Fans of Fire Country know that the show’s budget cuts are the essential villain behind Vince’s death. But so far on-screen, a majority of that blame has been placed on Walter, primarily by Sharon.

Now, after weeks of taking heat from Sharon, Walter has finally shared the brutal reality behind Vince’s death: he was dead long before the fire was able to take him.

Without Walter by her side, she would likely have perished beside Vince in the Zabel Ridge Fire, leaving Bode with no parents at all.

Not only that, but the secret payments Vince was sending to Sharon’s mom, Ruby, were for her benefit. Rather than allowing her to be a trigger for Sharon during a difficult time in her life, he paid her off to leave them alone.

Vince’s decision to keep his deal with Ruby a secret only further highlights the love the two shared.

Ensuring Vince’s name is cleared of any wrongdoing is the perfect route for the series to take. Honestly, it would be a disgrace to his character for some unfortunate drama to be unveiled after his death.

Now, it’ll be interesting to see how Sharon navigates the new information while simultaneously dealing with her estranged mother.
