The Dutton saga isn’t over — it’s just getting bigger. New spinoffs, new battles, new secrets

The Yellowstone franchise has become one of modern TV’s most celebrated universes, blending epic Western storytelling with intense family drama. Since its debut in 2018, Taylor Sheridan’s saga of the Dutton family has spawned multiple spinoffs, exploring both the past and future of this iconic Montana ranching dynasty. Here’s a full look at all confirmed Yellowstone spinoffs, from prequels to new adventures.

1883 (2021–2022)

The first spinoff, 1883, traces the origins of the Dutton family in the post-Civil War era. The story follows James Dutton and his family as they leave Tennessee and travel across Texas and Oregon before finally settling in Montana.

The series stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen, James Landry Hébert, and Noah Le Gros. By the series finale in 2022, James Dutton established the family’s Montana home in Paradise Valley, laying the foundation for the Yellowstone ranch.

1923 (2022–2025)

Serving as a sequel to 1883, 1923 covers the Dutton family during Prohibition and the early Great Depression. The series follows Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) as they navigate the challenges of Montana life while guiding the next generation, including Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer).

Isabel May returns as Elsa Dutton, providing narration and connecting the series back to 1883. 1923 concluded in April 2025 with Spencer assuming control of the family ranch and Jacob and Cara raising his son, John.

The Madison (TBA)

Set in Montana’s Madison River Valley, The Madison follows the McIntosh family as they relocate from New York City following a personal tragedy. Michelle Pfeiffer leads the cast, joined by Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Alaina Pollack, Danielle Vasinova, and potentially Kurt Russell.

Filming ran from August to December 2024 across Montana and Texas. Described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection,” the show will stream on Paramount+.

Yellowstone Spinoff Trailers Are Quite Surprising...

Y: Marshals (2026)

This procedural spinoff stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. Following the sale of most of the Yellowstone ranch in the main series finale, Kayce joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit, blending his cowboy skills with his Navy SEAL training.

Logan Marshall-Green co-stars, and Spencer Hudnut serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The show is slated to premiere in 2026 on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+.

6666 (TBA)

Named after the historic Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, 6666 takes place between Yellowstone seasons 4 and 5. The cast is currently unknown, though rumors suggest Ryan Bingham may reprise his role as Walker. This spinoff will air on Paramount Network.

1944 (TBA)

A sequel to 1923, 1944 is set during World War II and will follow a new generation of Duttons. Filming is expected in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. While full plot details are undisclosed, older characters from 1923 could appear. The series is planned for Paramount+.

The Dutton Ranch (TBA)

Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) will headline this spinoff, picking up after the events of Yellowstone season 5. Finn Little returns as Carter, the young boy under Beth and Rip’s care. Ed Harris and Annette Bening are also set to star, with Chad Feehan as showrunner.

The series will explore how Beth and Rip maintain the Dutton Ranch, protect Carter, and face ongoing challenges in Montana. Production, under the working title Rio Palo, is underway in Ferris, Texas. The show will likely stream on Paramount+.
